Ensuring safe play: What's involved in a playground inspection

Playgrounds are vibrant hubs of activity, essential for children's physical development and social interaction.
However, they can also pose risks if not properly maintained and regularly inspected. That's where our expertise comes in...
This past week, our certified inspectors have been diligently examining every inch of play areas at local schools and in public spaces - from swings and slides to climbing frames and surfacing.
This involves a comprehensive process, including:
Visual inspections Checking for obvious defects like broken equipment, sharp edges or protruding nails.
Operational performance checks Ensuring moving parts, like swings and seesaws, are functioning correctly and safely.
Impact attenuation testing Crucially, we've been assessing the safety surfacing (like rubber, woodchip or sand) to ensure it provides adequate shock absorption in case of a fall. This is vital for minimising injuries.
Entrapment assessments Identifying any gaps or openings where a child's head or limbs could become trapped.
Structural integrity checks Verifying the stability and soundness of all play structures.
Compliance with standards Making sure all equipment and the overall playground layout adhere to the latest safety standards, such as EN 1176 and EN 1177, which are crucial for UK playgrounds.
We understand that a safe play environment is paramount for schools, nurseries, local councils and other organisations responsible for children's well-being. Our detailed inspection reports not only highlight any issues but also provide clear recommendations for remedial action, helping you maintain a safe and compliant play space.
It's been a productive week, and we're proud to contribute to creating secure and enjoyable environments for children to play and learn. If you're due for a playground inspection or have any concerns about your current facilities, don't hesitate to get in touch!
