Project Spotlight: Bringing Indoor Adventure to Porthleven School!

At Academic Facilities Services, nothing makes us happier than transforming school spaces into vibrant hubs of active learning. Our latest project took us to the beautiful coastal community of Porthleven School, where we had the absolute pleasure of designing and installing a brand-new, custom indoor climbing frame.

As specialists in creating safe, engaging play environments across the Southwest, we know how unpredictable the British weather can be. That’s why bringing the thrill of outdoor adventure inside is such a game-changer for schools looking to keep pupils active all year round.

The Challenge & The Vision

Porthleven School wanted an indoor solution that would maximize their available space, challenge students physically, and—most importantly—keep them incredibly safe.

We got straight to work designing a bespoke climbing structure tailored specifically to the school's layout. The goal was to create a multi-level experience that tests grip strength, core stability, and problem-solving skills, all while seamlessly fitting into a busy school environment.

This isn't just a climbing frame; it's a tool for physical and cognitive development. When pupils scale our structures, they are secretly working on a host of crucial skills:

Safety is in Our DNA

As with every project we undertake at AFS, safety was our absolute priority from the first sketch to the final bolt.

This indoor installation complies strictly with BS EN 1176 play equipment safety standards. We utilized premium, durable timber, heavy-duty fixtures, and integrated high-impact safety surfaces. The result is a structure that allows children to safely push their boundaries, giving school staff complete peace of mind during indoor play sessions and lunch breaks.
